STAMFORD, Conn. — It was a Turkey Bowl upset as New Canaan High shut out No. 1-ranked Darien High in a Thursday matchup of the two football rivals in a game at Boyle Stadium in Stamford.
The final score was 27-0. That snapped Darien's 34-game win streak as New Canaan won the Turkey Bowl for the first time in five years.
Darien High played the game without two key players, including the starting quarterback.
Jack Joyce, the starting quarterback, and Brian Minicus, a wide receiver and defensive back did not play in the game, according to the Stamford Advocate. The two Darien High seniors were arrested Wednesday night in connection with an assault on a New Canaan teenager on Nov. 6.
Both teams qualified for the state tournaments.
New Canaan will play at No. 1-ranked Middletown in the quarterfinals of the Class L playoffs.
Darien, the No. 3 seed, will host No. 6 East Hartford in the Class LL quarterfinals.
