Trio of Sisters Shines for New Canaan Field Club

NEW CANAAN, Conn. – Three sisters and a 16-year-old speedster were all over the top of the final results for New Canaan Field Club at the Fairfield County Swimming League Division 2 championship Tuesday. Cara, Jenna and Meghan Egan all finished in fourth place or higher in their races, while Ian Robert took first place in all three of his events.

Robert, 16, dominated the boys 17-and-under category, taking the top spot in the 100-meter freestyle (57.16), the 50-meter backstroke (29.41) and 50-meter butterfly (28.47). Only two other swimmers won three different events at the meet.

Meghan Egan, 13, won the girls 14-and-under 100-meter individual medley (1:14.18) and the 50-meter freestyle (29.26). Meghan also took second place in the 50-meter butterfly (32.69).

Cara, 16, and Jenna, 15, finished in first and second place, respectively, in the girls 17-and-under 100-meter freestyle. Cara beat her sister by only 0.09 seconds with a time of 1:04.78. Cara also took second place in the 50-meter backstroke (39.06) and fourth place in the 100-meter individual medley (1:16.43). Jenna finished third in the 50-meter backstroke.

New Canaan Field Club finished sixth overall at the Division 2 championships out of seven teams with 617 points. The Lake Club of Wilton took the top spot with 1,019 points. Shore and Country Club of Norwalk finished second with 915, Stamford Yacht Club finished third with 789, Milbrook Club of Greenwich took fourth with 744 and Roton Point Association finished fifth with 710.

The top 16 swimmers from Division 2 will swim in the All-County meet at Roxbury Swim Club in Stamford on Saturday.
