FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The New Canaan 3rd Grade Black team continued its winning ways Saturday at Fairfield in a hard fought 7-0 defensive struggle in a Fairfield County Football League game.
Fairfields formidable front four were kept at bay by the fine line blocking of Joe Whitcomb, Matthew Balkun, Ethan Chalon and Henry Benton. With the defenses playing tough the first half was about field position. Late in the half signal caller Keaton Donnelly led the Black Team on a 40 yard march with Christian Sweeney eventually breaking the goal line behind key blocks from Ted Declue and Christian Carson. Sweeney knocked in the extra point to give the Black Team a 7-0 halftime lead.
In the second half both defenses dug in deeper. Brandon Kekedjian, Ben Graham and Charlie Young led the push constantly putting Fairfield on its heels. Christian Carson and Jack Goetz then provided the knockout blows with big hits and plays. Fairfields final drive was stopped cold after Ted Declue shedded two blockers and dropped the quarterback for a 5 yard loss.
With only ticks left on the clock Fairfields final Hail Mary pass was knocked down by Bates Grigsby and Matty Panella to secure the victory.
