St. Luke's Offense Explodes For 69 Points

NEW CANAAN, Conn. – St. Luke’s football team has already proved this season it can score a lot of points. Saturday’s 69-41 win over Kingswood-Oxford was the Storm’s most prolific output in years.

Led by five touchdowns by Noel Thomas Jr., St. Luke’s accumulated 683 yards of offense in improving to 5-0. Thomas, a senior who has committed to attend the University of Connecticut, ran for 349 yards on eight carries.

Quarterback Charlie Nelson threw for 136 yards and a touchdown, and ran for two more. Running back Myles Gaines added 147 yards and two touchdowns.

It was the most points scored in a game by St. Luke’s in at least six years, according to records. St. Luke’s has scored 197 points in five games, an average of 39.4.

Thomas had touchdown runs of 92, 58, 56 and 65 yards among his scores. St. Luke’s struggled to stop Kingswood-Oxford, however, and led 49-41 in the third quarter before the Storm pulled away for good. Gaines’ 63-yard run put St. Luke’s up by two scores.

Nelson hit Blake Stroman four times for receptions, including a long bomb for a touchdown. Andrew Sudano, Bryan Latarocca and Stroman had interceptions, and Noah Daniel recovered a fumble. A hard hit by Robert Wood caused the fumble. Sudano had 16 tackles to lead the defense.

The Storm will host Rye Country Day at 3 p.m. Saturday at New Canaan. Rye Country Day handed St. Luke’s its only loss last season.
