The victory at Clark University in Worcester, Mass. completed a second straight trifecta for the team, which also won the Fairchester Athletic Association regular season and tournament championships.
The game against GFA was just as dramatic as the previous three meetings between the teams this season, all of which were decided by a total of five points.
Greens Farms built an early 11-4 lead before St. Luke's rebounded with a 14-4 run and built a 37-29 halftime lead. St. Luke's stretched the lead to 14 in the second half before the Dragons clawed back to tie the game at 53-53 with six minutes remaining.
GFA then took the lead for the first time since the opening few minutes. But St. Luke's, led by Jackson Selvala and Walter Whyte, countered with an 8-0 run to take the lead for good.
Clutch foul shooting by Jonas Harper and Varoli in the closing minutes helped St. Luke's finish off the Dragons and celebrate another New England title.
St. Luke's finished the season 24-1 and head coach Drew Gladstone was thrilled with his team after the game: “These kids had so much outside pressure on them to repeat, and match last season's success so for them to actually do that is amazing. It is a true measure of the character of this team,'' he said.
