St. Luke's Boys Fall Again to King, 64-53

NEW CANAAN, Conn. – The St. Luke’s boys basketball team fared better in the first half against King than the last time the two teams met. But the second half was an all too familiar story Friday.

King quickly erased any thoughts of an upset with a 16-6 run to close the first half. St. Luke’s finished strong, but the Vikings built a lead that was too much to overcome. St. Luke’s fell 64-53.

St. Luke’s jumped out to an early 11-5 lead thanks to some rare solid shooting by the Storm. After an early time out, King adjusted to St. Luke’s defense and soon was having its way with its opponent.

King pulled away in the second half and led by as many as 22 points, echoing the Vikings’ first win this season against St. Luke’s. Drew Sawyer and Matt Reggina combined for 39 points, while Guilbert Francois posted a double-double (13 points, 18 rebounds).

Noel Thomas and Elijah Holyfield tied for a team-high 10 points. Holyfield netted all 10 of his points in the final four minutes when the game was already out of reach. Jalen Latta netted nine points, but had a tough day from the field making fewer than 15 percent of his shots.

The schedule does not get any easier for St. Luke’s (1-10, 0-7 conference) as the Storm travels to top-ranked Hamden Hall for its next game. The game was scheduled for Saturday but has been moved to a date to be determined because of the snow storm.
