River Dogs Win New Canaan Bantam 8 Tourney

NEW CANAAN, Conn. -- The New Canaan Baseball Bantam 8 League finished the regular season with playoffs on Saturday, June 25, at Waveny Park. This was the first year 8-year-olds had a playoff bracket and they were awarded the Inaugural Waveny Cup. It was the end of a very competitive season, with all teams close in the standings.  The playoffs consisted of a round robin tournament ending in a final game that went down to the last out. In the end, the championship went to the Bank of New Canaan Charleston River Dogs. The River Dogs led for most of the game and went into the final inning ahead 3-0.  In that final inning, the Karl Chevrolet Frisco Roughriders scored two quick runs, narrowing the lead to 3-2.  With two men on and two outs, Charlie Tait managed to close it out with outstanding pitching, holding on to give pitcher Andrew Mayock the win. The River Dogs were supported with outstanding efforts offensively by Jack O'Donnell, Colin Ratner, Jack Fitzgibbon and Teddy Schoenholtz. The defense was impenetrable, with stellar play in the field by Christian Carson at third, Cole Prochilo at second and Trevor John behind the plate.
