NEW CANAAN, Conn. New Canaan High grad Kurt Ondash is off to a great start with the Cornell University football team,
having emerged as its leading receiver.
Ondash, a junior, has nine catches for 191 yards and one touchdown in the first two games for the Big Red (1-1). He caught an 87-yard touchdown pass in the teams 24-13 victory over Bucknell in the season-opener. Ondash also had eight catches for 104 yards in a 37-17 loss to Yale last weekend. Ondash leads the Ivy League in average per catch (21.2) and yards per game (95.5).
Last year, Ondash had 11 receptions for 62 yards. Ondash earned first-team all-state honors in 2008 as a Ram, scoring 15 touchdowns and gaining 1,201 yards on 59 catches. He also ran track and played basketball at New Canaan High.
Cornell hosts Wagner Saturday in Ithaca, N.Y., before it returns to Ivy League action next weekend against Harvard.
