New Canaan's Lindsey Schmid Helps Babson Softball Reach NCAA Tourney

NEW CANAAN, Conn. – New Canaan’s Lindsey Schmid and the Babson College women’s softball team will play Bridgewater State on Thursday in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

Babson was one of eight teams to qualify for the Babson Park Regional. The winners from eight regional sites will advance to the NCAA Finals beginning May 17.

Schmid hit .364 with 20 runs scored, 10 extra base hits and 18 RBIs for Babson, which posted the third most wins in the program's history.

Babson has won 21 of its last 25 games. The Beavers lost in the finals of the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference tournament to Springfield on Sunday, 6-2. Babson is playing in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2006.
