New Canaan's James Randon Scores Second In 2 Mile At National Track Meet

NEW CANAAN, Conn. – New Canaan’s James Randon closed out his high school track career with two superior performances at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals in North Carolina over the weekend.

Randon finished second in the 2 mile in 8:52.56, a personal best. On Sunday, he finished fourth in the 1-mile run in 4:10.29. Randon ran for Middlesex School, a private school in Massachusetts. He will head to Yale University in the fall. Randon's 2-mile time betters the Connecticut record of 8:56:35, run by Donn Cabral of Glastonbury in 2008. In Friday’s 2-mile, Randon finished second to Sean McGorty of Fairfax, Val. They were the only two runners in the field of 28 to go finish in less than nine minutes. Randon’s time is the sixth best time in the nation this spring.  McGorty’s time is the best in the nation.

Randon was in contention in the mile as well. Henry Wynne of Staples High School in Westport won in 4:07.84. Randon’s best time in the mile, 4:09.39, is 25th in the nation this spring. He ran that time at race in New York in May.

The mile was Randon's third race of the meet. He also ran with the Middlesex 4 x 1-mile relay, which finished eighth Sunday.
