NEW CANAAN, Conn. -- New Canaan native Curt Casali suffered a concussion while catching for the Tampa Bay Rays in a game Wednesday night against the Boston Red Sox, according to MLB.com.
Casali, who was hit on his face mask by a foul tip twice in three pitches, will likely miss the remainder of the season, MLB.com said.
"I didn't feel very good after that second one," Casali told MLB.com. "I think if the two happened to be separated a little bit more, if there had been some time in between the two pitches it would have been OK. But just the fact it happened in three pitches hit the nail on the head, took me out."
Casali was taken off the field by a Rays trainer and manager Joe Maddon.
The rookie catcher called up by the Tampa Bay Rays in July.
