New Canaan U11 Red Girls Split Soccer Games

NEW CANAAN, Conn. – The New Canaan Girls' U11 Red soccer team split a pair of games during the weekend, beating Fairfield, 4-0, while dropping a hard-fought 1-0 contest to Wilton.

Against Fairfield, goalies Claire Ross and Kayla Beck did a fantastic job protecting the goal for New Canaan. Offensive standouts included Whitney Bryant, Katelyn Sparks and Jessie Eccleston. New Canaan’s Abby Carstensen scored the first goal after receiving a nice pass from Ryan Mushkin at the end of the first half. Olivia Cosco scored on a breakaway and Jessie Dolby netted a pair with assists by Lucy Coutts and Cosco.

Against Wilton, Cosco played in goal in the first half as the game remained scoreless. Meghan Kloud, Joelle Anselmo and Katelyn Sparks led the offense. KK Marcus, Eccleston and Ryan Mushkin did well defending the goal. In the second half, New Canaan came out with a bang seeming to control the ball most of the time near its goal, however, none of the shots seemed to hit the net. Coutts did a great job as goalie and Lauren Bisceglia, Eccleston and Joelle Anselmo helped defend New Canaan’s goal. Two Wilton shots clanged off the post.

Jessie Dolby, Meghan Kloud and Cosco, now on offense, seemed to control the ball for New Canaan in the second half. A late goal by Wilton on a well-defended play gave Wilton the win.
