New Canaan Triathlete 4th in Ironman Age Group

NEW CANAAN, Conn. – New Canaan triathlete Eben Jones finished fourth in his age group last week at the Ironman World Championship in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii.

Jones, 51, finished 333rd overall in a field of 1,918 athletes. The race consisted of a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike ride and a 26.2-mile marathon. He finished in 9 hours, 48 minutes and 53 seconds. Earlier this year, Jones won his age group at the USA Triathlon Age Group Championships in Vermont.

Jones finished fourth in his age group in the swim with a time of 57:55. Jones, who is a bond trader, was a swimmer in college at Dartmouth. He finished the bike ride in 5:02:42, which was second among his age group. In the marathon, Jones ran 3:40:43, which was fourth among his age group.

He finished third among U.S. Men, and was just 4:34 from being the first American. John Mergler, of Australia, won the race in 9:42:38, followed by Michael Blue. of Seattle. Michael Nugent of Lone Tree, Colo., was third. Complete results are available online.
