The meet is the most prestigious synchronized swimming event held in the United States. Many of the nation’s top synchronized swimmers, including a 2012 Olympian and U.S. national team members, were in attendance.
The championships combine the U.S. Junior Championships (15-18 years of age) and U.S. National Championships (15 and over). The Junior event featured 115 athletes representing 24 teams from across the United States.
The Aquianas’ Emma Baranski won first place in solo and figures competition. In the duet event, Baranski and Renee Collett finished seventh.
In the combo event, Baranski, Collett, Emily Roney, Erin Wheeler, Isabella Montgomery, Alexandra Lin, Rebecca Trinklein, Alice Chidley, Eliza Sturgeon, and Camilla Kline earned sixth place. In the team event, fourth went to Baranski, Collett, Roney, Wheeler, Montgomery, Trinklein, Chidley, Sturgeon, and alternate Lin with a score of 146.8870, just behind three teams from California.
“This meet is very competitive,” New Canaan coach Jen Muzyk said. “But these girls, with their endurance, flexibility, strength and team cohesiveness, met the challenge.”
The team now transitions to the age group part of the competition season. The next meet, the Connecticut & Metropolitan Association Competition, will be held April 27 and 28 at the New Canaan YMCA.
