New Canaan Swimmers Break Records At County Meet

NEW CANAAN, Conn. – Ian Robert of the New Canaan Field Club and Maddie Rusch of the Country Club of New Canaan each set new Fairfield County Swim League records Saturday in the 64th annual Fairfield County Swim League Championships.

Robert broke a seven-year-old record in the boys 17-and-under 50-meter backstroke with a time of 27.74 seconds. Rusch set a new mark in the girls 17-and-under 50-meter butterfly with a time of 28.90 seconds.

Robert also dominated the boys 17-and-under 100-meter freestyle, beating the competition by more than four seconds with a time of 52.50. Rusch won the girls 100-meter free with a time of 58.87 seconds.

Meghan Egan of the New Canaan Field Club had the most individual wins of any New Canaan swimmer. Egan won three races: the girls 14-and-under 50-meter freestyle (28.20), the girls 14-and-under 50-meter butterfly (30.32) and the girls 14-and-under 100-meter individual medley (1:09.95).

Jackson Oehmler of the New Canaan Field Club was New Canaan's other first-place finisher. Oehmler won the boys 10-and-under 25-meter backstroke in 17.62 seconds.

The New Canaan Field Club finished eighth place among 31 teams in the county championships with 421.5 points.

Rocky Point Swim Club of Greenwich won its third championship in team history with 1106.5 points. Rocky Point dethroned perennial powerhouse and meet host, Roxbury Swim and Tennis Club of Stamford.
