New Canaan Runs at League Championship

NEW CANAAN, Conn. – New Canaan High’s Alex Spinu finished 23rd overall to lead the boys team to a ninth place team finish at the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference cross country championships at Waveny Park. New Canaan’s girls finished 11th.

In the boys race, Spinu ran 17:16 on the 5-kilometer course. Other New Canaan runners who scored included Dylan Kavookjian (42nd), Tucker Radecki (52nd), Kalan Lysenko (68th) and Isian Masoinette (69th). Danbury’s boys won the team title, while Staples’ Henry Wynne was the individual champion. New Canaan finished with 254 points.

Lana Delvecchio (46th in 16:56 for 4 kilometers) led New Canaan’s girls. Other New Canaan runners who scored included Elizabeth Perry (63rd in 17:39), Lilly Baer (64th in 17:40), Lily Citrin (65th in 17:43) and Emily Wood (68th in 17:50).

Ridgefield’s girls won the team championship, and Greenwich’s Abby Markowitz won the girls race.

New Canaan will compete in the Class L championships Saturday at Wickham Park in Manchester. Complete results of the FCIAC meet are available on clubct.org.
