New Canaan Rowers Rock in N.J. Event

Rowers from New Canaan Crew and Maritime Rowing Club won more races than any other team at last weekend's Cooper Cup Regatta in Cherry Hill, N.J.

New Canaan Crew's depth showed early with two boats advancing to the ?nals in the Women's Lightweight Double. Lilly Gorman and Aubrey Kene?ck plus teammates Bea Tobey and Veronica Hoeft easily made it to the afternoon ?nal. Tobey and Hoeft took an early lead before Gorman and Kene?ck rallied to take the race. Tobey and Hoeft won the bronze.

Parker Lange and Palmer Foote?s win looked easy in the Men's Lightweight Double as they advanced to the final with four seconds to spare. In the final, they trounced the nearest boat by three seconds.

Alexa Persico and Olympia Bordelon crushed the competition winning the Women's Open Double by nearly six seconds.

In the Varsity Men's Quad event, again New Canaan secured two spots in the final. Charlie Campbell, Scott Yanoff, Jonathon Rosow and Henry Franco brought home the winner's cup while Mike Squitieri, Alex Buck, Peter Tortora and Colin Hill came home with bronze.

Tucker Keutey, David Kircher, Ross Burnaman and Graham Mink won gold medals in the Men's JV Quad.

In the Men's Novice Quad, Justin Podlesak, Lee Mount, Blake Lange and Stephen Mettler earned silver, while their teammates Glen Wolyner, George Herde, Evan McAuley and Daniel Crowley earned bronze.

Emily Caccam and Lauren Bell took home silver in the Women's JV Double, and Alex Mauboussin and Steven Gerasimoff took third in the same event for the boys.

In the Novice 8 events, New Canaan won bronze medals. Kathryn Perez (cox), Alex Yanoff, Lauren Howe, Jackie Winsch, Sam Stein, Hannah Foley, Caroline Cone, Madison Yancey and Brit Viergever comprised the girls team. The boys included Frankie Hogan (cox), Robert Paris, Theo Christian, Nick Reynoso, Tim Steckler, Rex Rubin, Juan Puablo Rivera, Justin Vasquez and Grif?n Daniel.

"The depth we have shown here today really bodes well for Northeast Regionals,'' coach Nate Kelly said.

New Canaan Crew and Maritime Rowing compete again May 11 at the St. Luke's Regatta on the Norwalk River.
