NEW CANAAN, Conn. - New Canaan High School quarterback Matt Milano has been marching toward one school record after another on the football field. Saturday afternoon, the latest and perhaps most impressive fell during New Canaan's 43-14 rout of St. Joseph High of Trumbull.
Milano's first touchdown of the afternoon was his 58th of his high school career. The 30-yard strike to Patrick Newton in the first quarter broke a 40-year-old record held by all-time Rams great, Kurt Horton. Milano, a senior, went on to throw five more touchdowns in the game, bringing his career total to 63. Milano fell one touchdown short of Horton's single-game record of seven touchdown passes.
Milano broke the Connecticut state single-season touchdown record last year with 42. The all-time Connecticut state career record is 80 touchdowns, held by Dan Breutsch of Southington, set from 1998 to 2000.
