New Canaan Girl Helps Cornell Reach Semis

New Canaan's Xandra Hompe helped the Cornell University women's hockey team reach the semifinals of the NCAA women's tournament before falling to Boston University.

BU defeated Cornell, 4-1. Wisconsin went on to win the national championship with a 4-1 victory over Boston.

Hompe, a sophomore, played in 34 games for Cornell and scored one goal. She also had four assists. Hompe played at Greenwich Academy and New Canaan High School before heading to Cornell. As a sophomore at New Canaan High, she tallied 96 points, a state single-season scoring record. Cornell finished the season 31-2-1.
