Quarterback Mike Collins hit Kyle Smith with scoring passes of 43 and 80 yards in the second half to lead the Rams to a 14-0 victory. New Canaan finished the season 8-0, and was led by an offense that averaged more than 38 points per game.

The Rams’ defense also excelled, recording three shutouts while surrendering an average of fewer than 10 points per game. New Canaan forced six turnovers by Darien, including interceptions by Clayton Burt and Mike Collins.

The Rams battled injuries all season, but coach Brian McArdle said the team persevered through many challenges. “It was the 'next guy in' attitude which allowed for more opportunities for players to develop their skills and contribute,’’ McArdle said. “It was a total team effort.

“I’m going to miss this group of young men, but I am looking forward to seeing them continue on at the next level and competing for state championships,’’ McArdle said.

New Canaan’s other wins this season came over Trinity Catholic, Fairfield Warde, Brien McMahon, Norwalk, St. Joseph, Wilton and Bassick.

New Canaan’s freshman team members are William Arliss, Clayton Burt, Andrew Chalon, Justin Clark, Matt Cognetta, Michael Cognetta, Mike Collins, Andrew DeFranco, Matt Demko, Nicholas Femia, Matt Hall, Casey Herzog, John Hetherington, William Hooks, Sean Jensen, Cass Knox, Samuel Larson, Rafael Lovas, Brian MacCalla, Carlos Mauleon, Jeffrey Murphy, Lucas Niang, David Noonan, Jake O’Neill, Gardner Read, Ryan Rigione, Logan Ritch, Adam Ruth, Luke Salvati, Kyle Smith, Peter Swindell, Jarrett Toromeo, Miles Turpin and Thomas Williams.
