NEW CANAAN, Conn. -- New Canaan Crew teams won five races at the Cooper Cup Regatta recently in Cherry Hill, N.J., and won 12 medals with 18 entries in novice, junior varsity and varsity events.
Peter Tortora, Graham Mink, Alex Buck and Jonathon Rosow dominated in the Mens Varsity Quad event, wining the final by almost 18 seconds. Tucker Klutey, Alex Mauboussin, Steven Gerasimoff and Geoff Cloud took bronze, missing silver by less than a second.
The Mens Varsity Lightweight 8 also brought home a Cooper Cup trophy when Alex Richmond, Jack Winslow, Alex Vernon, Evan Turiano, Luke Thompson, Billy Curley, Eddy Nilan, Merritt Cullman with their cox Frankie Hogan won handily with a 4.5 second lead over South Jersey Rowing Club.
Blake Lange and Ross Hurlock had a boat length on the competition to earn gold medals in the Mens Junior Varsity double.
Claire Campbell, Alex Yanoff, Lauren Howe and Petra Krompaska crushed their competition by 21 seconds in the Womens Junior Varsity Quad to earn their gold medals.
Not to be outdone, Dan Crowley, Justin Podlesak, Michael Magid and Steven Ross also beat their nearest competition by 21 seconds in the Mens Novice Quad.
Ellie Biddle, Mary Campbell, Cara Hoelzl and Alexa Persico won silver in the Womens Varsity Quad. Also bringing home silver were Ned Berman, Sam Wiley, Tim Mapley, Carson West and Ashwini Rao (cox) in the Mens Lightweight Varsity 4. Griffin Daniel, Chazz Lucenti, James Vogt and Max Kantor took second in the Mens JV Quad.
Rounding out the medal winners were bronze winners Quinn Gruver, Bea Tobey, Veronica Hoeft, Aubrey Kenefick, Olympia Bordelon, Hallie King, Lauren Bell, Emily Caccam and Ashwini Rao (cox) in the Womens Lightweight Varsity Quad; Peter Zamsky, Price Figurelli-Reid, Nick Walsh, Logan Forsyth, Ian Corbet, Perry Barringer, Luca Furst, Chase Smith and Jeremy Schwartz (cox) placed third in the Mens Novice 8 and Amelia Swartz, Ekaterina Dyakova, Caroline Nelson and Riley Woodroof took third in the Womens Novice Quad event.

New Canaan Crew competes again May 19-20 in Worcester, Mass. at the USRowing Northeast District Junior Championships.
