New Canaan Cannons Win Fairfield Senior Baseball Title

NEW CANAAN, Conn. – The New Canaan Cannons defeated the Bridgeport Brewers, 4-0, to win the Fairfield County Men’s Senior Baseball League championship game on Saturday at Harbor Yard in Bridgeport. New Canaan won the best-of-three series, 2-1.

Bridgeport forced the deciding game with a 6-2 victory in the first game on Saturday. New Canaan defeated Bridgeport, 9-6, on Sept. 14 in the first game of the final series.

Chris Vartuli pitched a five-hit shutout for the Cannons. Vartuli allowed five hits and struck out eight.

Brian Valentine and Mike Fonseca had two hits each, while shortstop Peter Ackley made several terrific catches to take hits away from the Brewers. New Canaan took control with three runs in the second inning, including a huge double by Ackley.
