NEW CANAAN, Conn. -- The New Canaan Baseball/Softball resumed its Fall Season league play this week.
Bantam 7
Green Berets 22, Blue Angels 22 The Green Berets and the Blue Angels put on a tremendous offensive display to start the Bantam 7's season, ending their showdown in a 22-22 tie. The Green Berets were powered on offense by Brendan Keogh, Taylor Brown, and Riley Gardiner, while the Blue Angels got offensive contributions from Colt Alford, Henry Garrity, and Taylor Yancy. The defenses began to show mid-season form later in the game, with Matthew Axon and Ned Brady showing the way for the Green Berets, and Alex Sotirhos and Nick Burns flashing leather for the Blue Angels.
Army Rangers 15, Navy Seals 15. In a thrilling opening day battle the Navy Seals and Army Rangers fought to a 15-15 tie. The Navy Seals were led on offense by the big bats of Nick Delgtisch, George Mulry and Ian Wearing. On defense, Ty Groff and Justin Higgins flashed the leather. The Army Rangers offense was paced by Matt Wronski, Michael Sanseverino and Stanley Bright. Defensively, excellent plays were made for the Rangers by Chris Luchette, Dylan Murray and Ryan Werneburg
Cub 9
Cherokees 7, Pawnees 3. The Cherokees lost their opener to the Pawnees by the score of 7-3. Strong pitching by Ryan Higgins, Jake Barna, Alex Rashad and Jack Fitzgibbon kept the team in the game to the end. Thomas Welch made a terrific catch playing third base which helped defuse a rally by the Pawnees. Other big contributors were Max Forte, George Megdanis and Harrison Graber.
The Pawnees enjoyed solid pitching performances by Dylan Pescatore, Jackson LaSusa, Dukes Plum and Andrew Mayock, who closed out the game. At the plate, Mayock went 3 for 3, including an RBI, and also walked once. Aidan Smith and Ben Loomis also came up with key hits to help add a couple late-inning runs.
Iowas 7, Cherokees 9
This past Saturday was opening day for New Canaan Fall baseball. In game two for the Cherokees they faced a well rested Iowa team who were able to seize victory. Starting pitcher for the Iowas, Jack Ellis had a strong two inning outing and was backed up by Will Bozzella, Jonathan Hall and Andrew Gray. Notable hits from Jack Jordan (triple) and Jamie Wilcox drove in several runes. Cherokee pitchers including George Megdanis, Ryan Higgins, Alex and Andrew Rashad, who worked hard to wear down a tough Iowa offense. Will Galvan, Thomas Welch and new comer to NC Henry Cannon played a strong game for the Cherokees from both a defensive and offensive perspective
U-12
Mets 12, Twins 5 The game between the Mets and the Twins was an exciting one! Both teams played great, But the Mets won because everyone played great. To start the game Christian Casinelli pitched extremely well. Christian was helped out by some great defense by Ryan Krolilkowski and Connor Volpe. The Mets also looked great in the batters box. Everyone on the team reached base safely: that impressive! Cristina Gehrich had a big RBI single into the outfield. Chase Pellegrini De Paur showed he has a good eye by walking every time he got up. Other players like Josh Audencial and Ryan Russo also had great hits. Tim Ferm and Dan Shullman finished the game by doing a great job pitching. Overall it was a great outing for the Mets.
