NEW CANAAN, Conn. The New Canaan boys seventh-grade Black basketball team rebounded from two tough losses last weekend to win the Ridgefield Basketball Invitational Tournament for the second year in a row.
The week started off on Wednesday evening with a convincing win over host Ridgefield, 45-23. New Canaans solid play continued on Friday and Saturday with a 58-25 win over the South Windsor Attack and a 55-33 victory against Brookfield.
On Sunday, New Canaan played its best basketball of the season, defeating rival Darien, 59-47, in the morning and Greenwich, 67-40, in the afternoon.
After the game, Greenwich coach Todd Trimmer congratulated the New Canaan team, noting, In all my years of coaching, I have never seen a team play as hard as the New Canaan seventh-grade Black team.
Earlier this season, New Canaan also went undefeated in the Joe Coppo Tournament. It is 16-4 overall and 6-3 in the Fairfield County Basketball League.
New Canaans team includes Dillon Abate, Austin Bell, Matthew Berger, James Crovatto, Troy Dunnam, Charlie Grow, Michael Pelli, Tim Russo, Tyler Sweeney and Jonathan Young. Levar Wakefield is the teams coach, assisted by Mircus Jones.
