NEW CANAAN, Conn. Jay Parmelee scored on a 48-yard run on the first possession for the New Canaan 6th grade Black team as it used a strong ground attack to knock off Norwalk, 27-16, in a Fairfield County Football League game. Parmelee rushed seven times for 77 yards and two touchdowns, while quarterback J.D. Spark ran for two touchdowns and had 86 yards on just four carries to lead New Canaan. Thomas Russo, Michael Tuffy and Owen Shinn also had effective runs behind an offensive line anchored by Max Holmberg, Tucker Seth, Harrison Kazlauskas, Hamilton Stuart and David Kelly. Parmelee took a toss right and raced 48 yards for the opening score with 7:56 left in the first quarter. New Canaan made it 13-0 when Sparks hit Parmelee with a 7-yard touchdown pass. Sparks raced 23 yards for a 20-0 halftime advantage. After Norwalk scored late in the third quarter, Sparks' 41-yard burst with 6:25 left in the game put the contest out of reach. Sean Knight kicked three PATs for New Canaan. Sam Parmelee, Knight, Thomas Russo, Evan Reilly and Robbie Hynes led the defense. Sparks and Jay Parmelee added interceptions. New Canaan (2-1) plays Darien Blue Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at Dunning Stadium.
