NEW CANAAN, Conn -- New Canaan 4 Black chalked up a convincing 26-7 over Farfield Red.
New Canaan began with a strong start the first play of the game was a long run up the side by quarterback Luke Morton. Black continued to advance the ball down the field in the second play of the game with a hand off to Brandon Sechan. Zach LaPolice paved the way for tailback Sechan with a stellar block.
Great blocking by Sechan, Finnigan, Rigione and Carratu paid dividends. After a run up the middle by fullback LaPolice, Morton ran 18 yards for a touchdown to put New Canaan on the board.
Fairfield took possession of the ball and advanced a few yards rushing until defensive end Nick Brown dropped them back on their 24-yard line. New Canaan took possession of the ball, determined to score quickly.
The offensive coach sent in a passing play. Morton threw a powerful pass to tight end Gus Larson. Larson outran the Fairfield defense, jetting 60 yards into the end zone. Morton ran a QB keeper for the extra point.
NC Black's defense remained strong throughout the quarter with key tackles by Rigione, Finnigan and LaPolice. Sechan later threw a 60-yard touchdown scoring pass to Morton.
Fairfield Red rebounded to find its stride and advanced the ball down the field. Lisecky and Colwell prevented a potential touchdown play with a great tackle. Determined to stop Fairfield, the duo of LaPolice and Sechan brought down another runner. Fairfield kept knocking though, and eventually ran for a touchdown, making the score 20-7 at halftime. Fairfield opened the second half by gaining 13 and then 11 yards with some solid running plays. New Canaan stiffened, and stopped them for the rest of the quarter. With less than three minutes remaining in the game, NC Black's Luke Morton made an impressive, leaping interception. He returned it for a score, making the final tally 26-7.
