New Canaan 3rd-Grade Red Takes the Field

NEW CANAAN, Conn. — On Saturday, the New Canaan 3rd-Grade Red football team took to Dunning Stadium field for the first time in their tackle football careers and had a great experience in a game against their Wilton foes.

Wilton opened the game with a solid offensive drive that resulted in a 55 yard touch down. Wilton converted on a two point extra point to take the lead 8-0.  New Canaan went three and out and punted. New Canaan had a solid defensive and had solid gang tackling from Harry Appelt and Jack Murphy to force Wilton into a third and 10. Wilton pulled off a nine yard run and then converted on a fumble forward on fourth down. Wilton then slowly ground down the field and scored on their second possession and New Canaan stopped the extra point to go down 14-0. New  Canaan turned the ball over on downs and Wilton scored on a long touchdown run to end the half. The extra point was stopped.

The second half opened with a better with a first down run by Christopher Canet of 30 yards on fourth down. After two fumbles, New Canaan's Christopher Canet had a had a bootleg of 20 yards for a first down. New Canaan penalized after the first down and Hayden Shin had an 11 yard run. For first down.Canet then had a bootleg for for four yards. Jack Murphy and Canet convert on runs for first downs. Maddox Underwood then has several short runs and finally scores on a two yard run. Conversion fails. Wilton then were stopped on the next possession and Wilton had two penalties.  New Canaan ended the game with three short runs for a 20-6 final score.
