NEW CANAAN, Conn. The young New Canaan third-grade Red team faced off against Dariens third-grade Blue at Dunning Field last Saturday. New Canaan Red came out confident as ever, chanting What do you get when you mess with the Rams? The Horns! The Horns! Unfortunately for the eager New Canaan team, Darien scored two first half touchdowns en route to a 13-0 victory in the Fairfield County Football League game.
Darien used New Canaans own adrenaline surge against them as they ran the ball left on a counter and the Red defenders simply over-pursued, leading to the opening score for Darien.
The Red took over and moved the ball with strong runs from Tommy Towers, Christopher Canet, Griffin Koch and Hayden Shin, but couldnt punch the ball in for a score in the opening quarter. New Canaans defense stiffened on the next drive, with big hits out of Charlie Borthwick, Ben Marshall, Nicholas Radman, Maddox Underwood, and Cory Pickering..
Darien scored again later in the firt half. Harry Appelt, Griffin Deane and Johnny Dunn stopped the extra point.
New Canaan took over in the third quarter as the offensive line of Jack Connors, Jackson Slazyk, Bryce Harrell, Aidan Blair and Kyle Kortman started opening up holes for the running game. New Canaan could not dent the end zone, however. The defensive line of Henry Cannon, Jackson Lamorte, Will Thomas, Dylan Kortman and Mac MacHale stopped Dariens running game in the second half.
