Fairfield County Platform Players Ready for Finals

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – Platform tennis players from Fairfield County will swing away Saturday in the Paul Fowler Invitational Tournament at clubs throughout the region.

The premier doubles event for the county’s vast platform tennis community, the tourney features 16 two-man teams in seven divisions. The tournament is played at several clubs, including the Country Club of New Canaan, Woodway Country Club, Greenwich Field Club, Country Club of Darien, Middlesex Club, Stanwich Club, New Canaan Field Club, the Lake Club, Waveny Lodge, the Wilton YMCA, the Wilton Riding Club, Rowayton Paddle Club and Wee Burn Country Club.

The finals will be held at the Country Club of New Canaan for the top four divisions. New Canaan Field Club will host the finals in the other divisions.

Max LePivert and Ken Dardis of the Stanwich Club won last year’s Division 1 tournament and return to defend their title this year. Other champions from last year include Junius Clark and Mark Warnken of Darien in Division 2, Jack Dowdle and Jon Speare in Division 3, Christian Tof-Nielsen and Jared King in Division 4, Kurt Schneider and Nick Stevenson of Wilton Riding Club in Division 5, Scott Gioffre and Stephan Ramirez in Division 6 and Benjam Adams and Brad Mahaney in Division 7.

A total of 26 clubs make up the Fairfield County Platform Tennis League. The tournament is the largest men's platform tennis contest in the country. For more information on the league, visit its website.
