Despite Losses, Rams Reload for Another Title Run

NEW CANAAN, Conn. — Most high school football teams would give almost anything to have the 2010 season New Canaan High had. By Rams standards though, it was an off year. They missed out on a shot at the conference title, fell short in its pursuit of a fifth straight state championship and then lost two irreplaceable seniors in Kevin Macari and Conor Hanratty. Despite those setbacks, head coach Lou Marinelli is keeping the goal high for the Rams in 2011. Conference and state championship dreams are still in reach, he says.

In the video Marinelli explains how the Rams will adapt this season. The biggest comfort to the Rams is the young man under center. Quarterback Matthew Milano broke just about every school record with 42 touchdown passes last season and is poised to smash some more long-lasting records this fall.

New Canaan will begin its campaign for a fifth state title in six years on Thursday, Sep. 15, at Bassick High School. Other schedule highlights include back-to-back trips to Norwalk to take on Brien McMahon High and Norwalk High. The Rams will try to avenge their only regular season loss of last season when they host St. Joseph on Oct. 22. New Canaan will not, however, take on Staples or Greenwich in the regular season. The Rams host the annual Turkey Bowl game at Dunning Stadium against Darien.
