NEW CANAAN, Conn. Recognizing that many middle and high school students would benefit from support in time management, note taking, study skills and organization, St. Lukes School is once again hosting the popular Successful Study Skills 4 Students program.
Study skills are the critical and necessary foundation for academic success. We are pleased to once again host S4 at St. Lukes so that all students in our community may take advantage of these important tools, said Jim Yavenditti, head of St. Lukes Upper School. The S4 program is founded on educational research and evidenced-based studies, and taught by accredited, passionate and engaging teachers. In a participatory, dynamic presentation, students will be taught 10 easy-to-implement skills essential for learning and studying. They include goal setting, time management, note taking methods, the importance of asking questions, active reading strategies, understanding main ideas and important details, using pictures and graphic organizers, summarizing, notebook organization and quiz, test and exam preparation strategies.
Its never too early for a student to learn and incorporate study skills tools and strategies into their studying practice. Putting into use even a single skill can make a big difference for a student, said Gareth Fancher, head of the Middle School at St. Lukes.
S4 workshops are highly interactive and collaborative, creating an engaging, compelling and comfortable learning environment. Limited class size of 15 ensures that all students get personalized attention. The 7 ½-hour, three-session workshop will be held Oct. 30, Nov. 6 and Nov. 13 at St. Lukes School, 377 North Wilton Road. The workshops will be between 2 p.m. and 4:40 p.m. The fee is $395. S4 supplies all materials, including a take-home folder that has an entire outline of the workshop and other material for ongoing student and parental support.
