Emergency Management Director Mike Handler announced at 2 p.m. that schools will be closed for at least two days and all after-school activities will be canceled. Handler said the town is expecting the storm to affect services and that residents should prepare to be without power for 10 to 14 days.
First Selectman Robert Mallozzi III declared the state of emergency for the town at noon, meaning non-essential town staff do not need to report to work on Monday.

The New Canaan Library will also be closed on Monday.
In advance of the storm, residents can collect drinking and non-potable water at the New Canaan Fire Department headquarters at 60 Main Street. Residents can also collect sandbags at the New Canaan Highway Department at 394 Main St. until 3 p.m. Sunday. Depending on demand, there may be a limit per household.
