New Canaan Schools Closed Monday Due to Power Loss

NEW CANAAN, Conn.  – Saturday’s wet, wintry weather has forced the New Canaan Public Schools to cancel classes for Monday.

School officials made the decision Sunday afternoon to not hold classes because of road closures and downed power lines. The closure also includes school offices on Locust Avenue and all school activities.

As of 1:30 p.m. Sunday, more than 3,600 Connecticut Light & Power customers in New Canaan were without power. That’s 43 percent of all the town’s customers.

The New Canaan Board of Education had already shuffled its schedule after Hurricane Irene forced the use of four snow days. The school year is currently set to end June 21.
