Niche compiled statistics for over 13,000 public schools with at least 100 students enrolled and graded them on a set of eight weighted factors including:
- Academics
- Health and safety
- Student culture and diversity
- Parent and student surveys
- Teachers' grade
- Resources and facilities
- Extracurriculars and activities
- Sports
New Canaan received the top grade of "A+" in three categories: academics, health and safety and teachers' grade.
The district's lowest grade was a "B -" in student culture and diversity.
The only other Fairfield County school to crack the Top 50 was Westport at No. 30.
