New Canaan Man Honored By NCC For Contributions

NEW CANAAN, Conn. — New Canaan’s Michael Hobbs received the Distinguished Service Award at the 51st Norwalk Community College commencement.

Hobbs, who is one the college’s foundation board, has served on the Construction Committee for the college’s Center for Science, Health and Wellness, and was honored for his contributions, a news release said.

His building expertise, dedication to deadlines and encouragement for the construction team has garnered him respect from others that he has worked with, the release said. Hobbs was the president of Hobbs Inc., a New Canaan-based construction firm, from 1968 to 1998, the release said.

He received the award from Philip Austin, interim president of the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities Board of Regents, during the ceremony on May 23.

The New Canaan native has served as president of the New Canaan Rotary Club and has served on the board of the Waveny Care Center. He earned his bachelor’s degree at John Hopkins and his master’s degree at Sacred Heart.
