New Canaan Gets New Head of Curriculum

NEW CANAAN, Conn. – A veteran Mount Pleasant, N.Y., school administrator will join New Canaan Public Schools next fall.

Mary Elizabeth Wilson will take over July 1 as New Canaan’s assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction, a role she currently has in the Westchester County school district. Wilson succeeds Mary Kolek, who is set to become New Canaan’s superintendent at the start of the 2012-13 school year.

New Canaan Board of Education Chairman Hazel Hobbs said she was impressed by Wilson’s background, including her work as associate director of applied research at the American Museum of Natural History and district supervisor of science for the Harrison, N.Y., Central school district. Wilson was also the science department chairman at Byram Hills High School in Armonk, N.Y.

That experience will be a big help as the district upgrades its math, science, engineering and math programs in addition to the rest of the district, Hobbs said. “She will be a strong, nice addition to our (team of) administrators,” she said of Wilson.
