New Canaan High Schools librarians would tell you that theirs is the best library in the country. Now, they have proof. The American Association of School Librarians awarded the school its 2010 National School Library Program of the Year award. NCHS was one of only two schools in the country to receive the award this year. The other was Indianapolis Perry Meridian Middle School.
The AASL chose New Canaans library primarily because of its technological services, including an online book discussion forum, open-source, online course management software and video tutorials on various social networking sites. They also cited the librarys involvement with all aspects of the students education, even going as far as coordinating with the physical education department and giving new media tutorials to parents and teachers.
"The New Canaan High School library is outstanding with its use of Web 2.0 tools integrating information literacy throughout the curriculum, Terry Kirk, the award committees chair, said in a press release. The students enthusiastically embrace learning through the technology and also have passion for personal reading."
