LeDuc Named Assistant Principal at New Canaan High

NEW CANAAN, Conn. – Former Brookfield High School teacher Veronica LeDuc will be reunited with Bryan Luizzi when she joins him in the halls of New Canaan High School this fall.

The physics and biology teacher was selected Friday as the new assistant principal, succeeding Dawn Bartz, who left New Canaan to become principal at Pleasantville High School in Pleasantville, N.Y. Luizzi was hired in April as the new principal at New Canaan High, taking over from Tony Pavia.

Before her three years at Brookfield, LeDuc served as an administrator for 13 years, including as assistant principal at Thomaston High School and Torrington High School. In all, LeDuc has nearly 20 years of experience teaching math and science.

Luizzi, Deputy Superintendent Mary Kolek, Assistant Superintendent Steven Swerdlick and current assistant principal Ari Rothman were among the members of the search committee. Superintendent David Abbey said it was nice to have someone with state certifications in math, general science, physics and biology on the high school’s leadership team as well as her previous administrative experience.

The committee “liked her focus on the students, her academic background, her quality of teaching, her leadership experience … and frankly, her ability to communicate and relate to the selection committee,” Abbey said.

Abbey said he expected LeDuc to officially start in the next few weeks to get ready for the start of the 2011-12 school year. “As soon as she can come to work, she can go to work,” he said.
