Kolek To Make Early Snow Call On New Canaan Schools

NEW CANAAN, Conn. – New Canaan Schools Superintendent Mary Kolek said she expects to make a decision by 5:30 a.m. Friday on whether classes will be canceled or schools will have early dismissal due to the heavy snow predicted.

“Because of our location and geography, this call may once again be a challenging one due to the track and timing of the storm," she said. "The decision has to be made by 5:30 a.m. to allow sufficient time for buses and staff to respond.”

St. Luke's School in New Canaan will be closed Friday because of the storm. Mark Davis, headmaster of the private school on North Wilton Road, made the announcement on Thursday, citing the severe weather and dangerous driving conditions.

New Canaan Schools have already had seven weather cancellations in the 2012-13 school year. Six of those days were lost due to Hurricane Sandy.

Changes made to the school calendar have the school year ending on June 21. If schools are closed Friday, the district will have classes on April 15, the first day of the planned April vacation.
