Amelia Logan is hardly worried about her first-ever day of school.
Though many children might feel a little anxiety about walking through those big doors at East School on Tuesday morning for the first day of classes in the 2010-11 school year, Amelia, 5, is looking forward to trading in her flip-flops for sneakers and loading up her book bag to start learning how to write.
"I'm excited," said Amelia, who spent Monday afternoon with her older sister Kaitlyn, 10, and brother Sawyer, 8. "I'm going to school and making friends."
Her mother, Cara Logan, might be the only person more excited. The mother of three is beginning her fourth year of teaching kindergarten at East and her 13th in the New Canaan Public Schools. The start of the year gives Logan another chance to see kids grow and mature.
"What I love about kindergarten is it is the beginning, " she said. "I get to see them take that first step forward and see their progress and growth."
Logan said her daughter Amelia may not be as worried because she has older siblings and because she attended introductory meetings with teachers to get an idea of what to expect.
The nerves usually associated with the first day of school "doesn't happen as much," Logan said.
Just in case, the East kindergarten kids will have the comfort of having one parent with them for the first hour of class. Amelia probably will not need her mom, though, even though she'll be in the same building.
"She's had a great summer and she's ready to go," Logan said.Click here to follow Daily Voice New Canaan and receive free news updates.
