NEW CANAAN, Conn. -- Republicans held firm in New Canaan as voters re-elected incumbent Tom O'Dea over his Green Party challenger David Bedell.

New Canaan is a Republican stronghold, but it shares three of its four General Assembly seats with other towns.

  • District 142: Republican Fred Wilms defeated Democrat Andy Garfunkel for the district representing part of New Canaan and part of Norwalk. This seat was left open after Minority House Leader Lawrence Cafero decided not to run for re-election.

The winners in the Senate races are:

  • In District 26 incumbent Republican Toni Boucher defeated Democratic challenger Philip Sharlach.
  • District 36: Incumbent Republican L. Scott Frantz turned back a challenge from Ed Heflin of the Green Party in the district, which also includes all of Greenwich and part of Stamford.

O’Dea is a member of the legislature’s Judiciary Committee, Environment Committee and Transportation Committee.

All results are unofficial until certified by the secretary of the state.
