“It has been a privilege to serve as Town Clerk for the past sixteen years, and I am pleased to be able to continue to bring the CMC-demonstrated level of excellence and expertise to our Town,” Weber said in a statement. “Continuing education helps professional municipal clerks keep abreast of changes in our field and learn more about best practices that have been successfully implemented in other communities.”

Those who receive the Certified Municipal Clerk designation must demonstrate professional proficiency and top administrative skills, the release said. The designation is recognized not just by the state, but throughout the country and even internationally, the release said.

“(International Institute of Municipal Clerks) grants the (Certified Municipal Clerk) designation only to those Municipal Clerks who complete demanding educational requirements and who have a record of significant contributions to their local government, their community and state,” Brenda Cirtin, Master Municipal Clerk, president of the organization, said in the release.

Weber has served as New Canaan’s Town Clerk since 1998, and as the Republican Registrar of Voters and assistant Republican Registrar of voters before that, the release said. She also worked in Washington as a confidential assistant to the U.S. Secretary of Commerce under the Reagan/Bush administration and for U.S. Sen. Paula Hawkins.

“Much of what my office does is mandated by statute, but I believe that helping people efficiently, knowledgeably and compassionately is the most important service I perform,” Weber said in the release.

She has already begun work on attaining the Master Municipal Clerk designation, the release said.
