The Republican Town Committee will hold its caucus for this year’s municipal election at Saxe Middle School, 468 South Ave., at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. The Democratic Town Committee will be waiting until July 23 to have its caucus at 8 p.m. at the Lapham Community Center in Waveny Park.

Each party will be deciding on candidates for first Selectman, selectman, Town Council, Board of Education, town clerk, town treasurer, Board of Assessment Appeals, and constables. All positions have two-year terms, except for the Board of Education and Town Council, which have four-year terms.

The big decisions for the Republican Town Committee will come in the Town Council race, where seven people are vying for the four openings, and the Board of Education, where five people are vying for three openings, a release from the party said.

Candidates who are not endorsed by their parties have until Aug. 7 to file petitions, and a primary, if necessary, will be held on Sept. 10, the secretary of state’s website said. Election Day is Nov. 5.
