Moynihan received 612 votes at the caucus, narrowly beating Mallozzi's 602 votes, according to the New Canaan Advertiser. Moynihan credited his victory to the people working on his campaign and to its message, the New Canaan Advertiser reported. Mallozzi told the New Canaan Advertiser that he was not that sad, and did not say whether he would petition for a primary against Moynihan.
In addition to Moynihan, the New Canaan Advertiser reported that New Canaan registered Republicans also endorsed Nick Williams for selectman, John Engel, Tom Butterworth, Richard Townsend and Penny Young for Town Council, incumbent Claudia Weber for Town Clerk, incumbent Andrew Brooks for Town Treasurer, incumbents Robert Avery and Janis Hennessy for Board of Assessment Appeals, incumbents Dionna Carlson and Jennifer Richardson for Board of Educaiton, Katrina Parkhill for Board of Education, incumbent Gregory Pepe for constable, and Arvind Bajaj, Mary Anne Marcella and Roger Williams for Constable.
