Officers went to a home at 538 Laurel Road to break up a suspected underage drinking party on the night of Thursday, Aug. 3, police said.

A resident of the home, Patrick Griffin Edmonds, 19, was issued a misdemeanor for permitting a minor to possess alcohol and possession of alcohol by a minor, police said. He was issued a court date of Aug. 16.

But Gene Bird, 19, of New Canaan, hid in a closet on the second floor of the home and refused requests from officers to come out, said police.

He was charged with interfering with an arrest and released on a promise to appear in court Aug. 17.
