Heather Sturtz, of Briarwood, Queens, N.Y., killed herself at the 721 North Wilton Road gated estate owned Michael Kramer, a partner at Ducera Partners in New York City.

"She was a friend of the family and a guest there," New Canaan Police Chief Leon Krolikowski said Thursday. "I believe she was residing somewhere on the property. She wasn't residing there permanently, maybe a night or so."

The homeowners were traveling and not at home at the time of the suicide, police have said.

Police have been in contact with Sturtz's family, Krolikowski said, but he didn't provide any additional information.

The property, owned by the investment banker with an assessed value of $10.18 million, includes up to nine buildings.

Police have classified the shooting as a suicide, however, the finding is contingent on receiving a report from the Connecticut Chief Medical Examiner’s Office, he said.

The incident began at about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday when the New Canaan Police Department received a call that an individual, later identified as Sturtz was at the home, armed with a handgun and was threatening suicide, Krolikowski said.

Officers arrived and found Sturtz, who had suffered a single gunshot wound to the head, he said. Sturtz was treated at the scene but did not survive.

According to the New Canaan Assessor's Office, the home at 721 North Wilton Road was built in 2006. The main 22-room house includes eight bedrooms and five bathrooms. The property also includes a tennis court and a pool.

The property has an assessed value of $10.18 million, and was the eighth-highest assessed property on the town's most recent Grand List.
