The other two officers who were also treated for smoke inhalation are expected back on duty Monday evening, she said. Ogrinc was unable to say when the injured officer is expected to return.
The three officers attempted to enter 747 Old Stamford Road, where a fire broke out just after midnight Friday morning, after a resident there told them his sister was still inside, but were driven back by heavy smoke without finding anyone. The woman was not in the residence because she was working the night shift, an email from Fire Marshal Fred Baker said.
The fire marshal’s office was not able to find the exact cause of the blaze, but did not find anything suspicious, Baker’s email said.
After the police officers left the home, firefighters put out the fire, which was located in an “in-law apartment.”
