A store employee told police he saw the suspect, Librea Scott, take items off the shelves and place them in her bag. He then confronted her at the counter and she put the items back and left as he asked her to do, Sgt. Carol Ogrinc said.
The items she attempted to take included miscellaneous toiletries, headphones and makeup worth about $72, the sergeant said. Scott had 16 items in all, Ogrinc said.
Police stopped Scott, 38, of Summer Street, New Canaan, on Park Street and arrested her after the store decided to press charges, Ogrinc said. Another customer at Walgreens followed her and called police, the sergeant said.
She was charged with sixth-degree larceny and was released on a promise to appear in court on Aug. 9, Ogrinc said.
