A man called police saying that he just passed a land cruiser driving on a flat tire with sparks coming from the rim, and with heavy damage to the right side of the vehicle, Sgt. Carol Ogrinc said. An officer went to the scene to collect evidence from the 22-feet of damaged guardrail and then followed the damaged road from the rim to a Weed Street residence, the sergeant said.
The total distance traveled was about four miles, Ogrinc said.
A female resident, Lesly Reilly, 48, admitted to the accident, after denying it, and was arrested after failing field sobriety tests, the sergeant said. Police have a two-hour window to perform the sobriety tests, Ogrinc said.
In the driveway of the residence was a 2005 Toyota Land Cruiser with damage matching the description given by the caller and with the damage to the guardrail, the sergeant said.
Reilly was given a misdemeanor summons for operating under influence, failure to drive right, reckless driving, and evading responsibility, Ogrinc said. She was released after posting a $250 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on July 16, she said.
