New Canaan Police Step Up Traffic Violation Patrol

NEW CANAAN, Conn.  – Eager to exceed the speed limit or talk on your cellphone while driving? The New Canaan Police suggest you change your mind.

Starting Tuesday, town police will increase efforts to target motorists who violate traffic laws. Capt. Leon Krolikowski said the department will have marked and unmarked cars on the roads to look out for speeders, drivers using their cell phones, those who pass stopped school buses or follow other vehicles too closely.

The effort will focus on certain streets that have had traffic problems, including New Norwalk, Silvermine, Heritage Hill, Smith Ridge, Oenoke Ridge, Old Stamford, Jelliff Mill and Ponus Ridge roads and South Avenue. The New Canaan Police Department said it is serious about enforcing state traffic laws in an effort to reduce the frequency and severity of motor vehicle accidents.
